UNESCO is a specialized agency of the United Nations dedicated to peace building in its fields of competence in education, natural and social science, culture and communication. In the context of the celebration of the 70th anniversary of UNESCO, this guide offers a new perspective on geology through buildings, materials and art objects. The first UNESCO headquarters building opened on November 3, 1958. It is the result of joint work of three architects: Bernard Zehrfuss (France) Marcel Breuer (United States of America) and Pier Luigi Nervi (Italy). The Headquarters occupy an area of 30350 m2 built in a trapezoidal shape, cut at its northeast corner by the semicircular shape of the Place de Fontenoy. This guide proposes to start the visit from the entrance of the Place de Fontenoy. This cultural site can be visited for free.
