Never again!’ was the determined aspiration of the men and women who created UNESCO in London in 1945. Against the backdrop of a devastating war, UNESCO was born as, as the agency of the United Nations to build the defences of peace in the minds of women and men, through cooperation in education, the sciences, culture, communication and information. This anniversary publication shows how UNESCO has taken this great mission forward over the past 70 years. It highlights, through stories and pictures, decade by decade, the ideas and actions developed and put in place, to translate into practice the noble words in the Organization’s Constitution.
