The World Heritage Committee will hold its 41st session from 2 to 12 July 2017 in Krakow (Poland), and this special issue will be dedicated to the country’s fourteen World Heritage sites. It will include a focus on such famous properties as the Historic Centre of Warsaw, Białowieża Forest and Muskauer Park / Park Mużakowski, as well as presentations of Poland’s cultural heritage, particularly its rich architectural and urban heritage. The evolution of heritage protection in Poland will be described, highlighting the key role of Polish experts in various international efforts after World War II, such as the drafting of the Venice Charter and the formation of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) and the International Committee of the Blue Shield.
