Complete Poetical Works of Lucian Blaga
‘(…) The present translation of Blaga’s complete lyrical works into a major language is a literary event that opens new perspectives to the student of East European literature. This is also another occasion to reflect on the difficulties of translating poetry from Romanian into English. (…) With immense courage, her love for Blaga’s work, and her long experience as a poet, translator, and publisher of Romanian poetry in English translation, Brenda Walker combines her native English with the native Romanian of Stelian Apostolescu to offer us six hundred poems by a poet who gave modern Romanian poetry one of its new directions. Her translator’s notes comment candidly on her art and, withtout literary fuss, explain her tour de force simply through her passion for this poet’s work. (…) A chronology, a foreword by Mircea Borcila, and a collection of moving photographs of the author and his family complete this elegant presentation.’
